This is where I would like to pay tribute to my father and his amazing gift. He was born in Holland and migrated to Australia with his family when he was only 14. His parents went back to Holland and he and his sister stayed. My father soon found a job at Besly & Pyke printers in Fortitude Valley. Soon after the company moved to Oxley and there my father stayed as a fitter and turner & supervisor for the next 40 years. Dad eventually had to retire with severe depression. It was incredibly debilitating and he was hospitalised for nearly ten years. He did eventually regain control of his mind with medication and went on to live normally with my mum for a good while. In this time he rebuilt two traction engines and created a multitude of other dioramas of antique devices. I have photographed these over the years and would like to show the ability he had. Dad is still with us, as are his creations, however his mind has failed once more. He is unable to work on his creations any longer. As such I’d like to immortalise them to the halls of the internet forever to be archived and remembered.

Steam traction engines was one of his greatest hobbies.

The Traction Engines

These are two traction engines dad buit. Both are in complete working condition. You can burn the wood and start the engine. It has working gears and breaks and can pull a small car. The smaller one is the only one of it's kind in the world.

His Other Creations

My Father also was particularly talented at creating scale dioramas of historic cannons and wagons and steam engines. These are some of those creations.
