The X-Wing Kit

The X-Wing was always a particular favourite kit to build. It was always such an iconic screen starship and the fun building this model was the chance to recreate the classic weathered look. From the scratches on the decals to the blast marks and the weathering this was a way to personally immortalise a much loved craft. The surfaces is primed and painted in a semi mat off white. The decals applied and then layers of weathering were added and allowed to dry before applying the next layer. The blast marks were created by crumbling match heads and carefully laying them onto the sides and igniting it. It creates a beautiful natural random damage effect. Filling the craters with aluminium paint helped create the sense that the blast damage carved right into the hull.
